Our Phonics Philosophy.
Puzzle Piece Phonics is a K-2 Comprehensive Word Study Program developed by three teachers. While teaching, we noticed the high level of growth that students made with effectively executed foundational skills lessons. When searching for programs/curriculums to teach our students, we struggled to find resources needed to fit a Balanced Literacy centered classroom.
That sparked a mission in us to design and implement content that is sustainable, engaging, and easy to implement into any classroom—Puzzle Piece Phonics was created!
Puzzle Piece Phonics Components
Simple Layout/Pacing Guide.
Teachers and students move fluidly through developmentally paced components of word study.
Differentiated Daily Lessons.
Clear weekly phonics focuses are taught to promote mastery each week while teaching students on their level.
Reference Sound Wall.
Weekly focuses are reinforced as Puzzle Pieces that build a master sound wall for students to refer to during all times of the day.
Appeals to all Learners.
Students learn the phonics focus through the spelling, an example word, picture, and motion.
Sorts.
Students sort sounds, words, and pictures that demonstrate the weekly focus patterns and expose them to higher-level vocabulary.
Comprehension Checks.
Students apply their knowledge of the weekly focus patterns to decode and respond to a new text.
Fluency Resources.
Designed to reinforce the focus patterns, fluency resources encourage students to have fun with language while building fluency.
Engagement.
Phonics is fun and fluid when all components are successfully implemented in the classroom!
